Managing change in an organization can come in various forms. Are some management styles are more effective than others? Can some managers be more successful in managing change? Deciding on the two people that I wanted to interview for this project came very easy to me. I chose these two people based on my experiences in conversations with him that I have had in the past. I also chose these two people because of the amount of respect I have for them in their knowledge in business. Additionally, the community banking industry is one that I have been apart of for the last 13 years. For the purposes of this paper, we are using the name â€Å"Paul Bunion†. Paul works for a community ba nk. He asked that I not used his real name due to some of his strong viewpoints of his current employer. Paul has been in community banking for almost 30 years. He is held various positions many of them have included different types of change. In his current role, he is the Vendor Manager. When he started this position, it was brand-new to the bank and in the industry due to regulatory changes. Jessica’s vision and mission for The Core, is to create a healthy Hunt County. Through her two businesses she attempts to educate, her customers into create a more â€Å"preventative† lifestyle. In her view, by living a healthy life and eating the right foods, you can prevent the lot of Health issues that may arise later in life. In this aspect, both companies seem to work in tandem. CrossFit Mockingbird provides an avenue for people to become active and learn functional movements. The Sunshine Shoppe is a store where customers can buy supplements in order to fill in a ny gaps that their diet maybe lacking. How do you acquire knowledge? How can we know the nature of reality? That is the question that epistemology asks. But what is epistemology itself and where does it come from? Epistemology focuses on studying knowledge and justified beliefs. What is it that makes knowledge enough and what makes justified beliefs justifiable? Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher born on April 22nd, 1724. He was the man who attempted to build a bridge between the empiricists and the rationalists. When looking at these two schools of thought one can see that they truly are polar opposites. Empiricist s focus is that all knowledge becomes known to us through the senses. Knowledge is experience based. John Locke attempted to explain this stance by dividing this theory into two ideas. The first is that there are simple ideas and the second is that there are complex ideas. Simple ideas are based on what we see. Factors like color, shape, size, texture, etc. come into play here. The complex ideas are simple ideas combined. Rationalists on the other hand believe in â€Å"innate ideas, reason, and deduction.† (Clay) They believe that we have some ideas, some knowledge before we are born. You also obtain knowledge through reason. They do not agree with the empiricists because they believe that the senses cannot give reasons. They only give opinions. One main criticism and benefits of many parliamentary systems is that the head of government is in almost all cases not the electorate, or by a set of electors directly chosen by the people, separate from the legislature. However, in a parliamentary system the prime minister is elected by he legislature, often under the strong influence of the party leadership. Thus, a party’s candidate for the head of government is usually known before the election, possibly making the election as much about the person as the party behind him or her. Another major criticism of the parliamentary system lies precisely in its purported advantage which is no truly independent body to oppose and veto legislation passed by the parliament, and therefore no substantial check on legislative power. Conversely, because of the lack of inherent separation of powers, some believe that a parliamentary system can place too much power in the xecutive entity, leading to the feeling that the legislature or Judiciary have little scope to administer checks or balances on the executive. However, parliamentary systems may be bicameral, with an upper house designed to check the power of the lower. Although parliamentarianism has been praised for allowing an election to take place at any time, the lack of a definite election calendar can be abused. In some parliamentary systems, such as the British, a ruling party can schedule elections when it feels that it is likely to do well, and so avoid elections at times of unpopularity. Thus, by wise timing of elections, in a parliamentary system a party can extend its rule for longer than is feasible in a functioning presidential system. This problem can be alleviated somewhat by setting fixed dates for parliamentary elections, as is the case in several of Australia’s state parliaments. In other systems, such as the Dutch and the Belgian, the ruling party or coalition has some flexibility in determining the election date. Homelessness a condition or a decision Essay Homeless people are not always the victims that the media have portrayed them to be. The alarming fact is that many of the homeless are their by choice. Dont get me wrong, I am not trying to portray all homeless people as lazy people who dont want to take care of themselves. This couldnt be further from the truth. In my experience with the homeless they are usually either in bad health, addicted to drugs, mentally ill or a combination of any of these. To compound matters worse, they are usually without any type of legitimate income to support themselves. One day last winter, I was leaving work and I was approached by a street-person. Living in the city most of my life, I had grown accustomed to this type of solicitation. This particular gentleman gave me a well rehearsed monologue about how his car had broken down and he was just trying to get enough money up to catch a bus home. Needless to say, I have heard this particular story in every city I had ever been to, by other street people in cities far bigger than Dayton, Ohio. I like to always give people the benifit of the doubt, but this story was a little overused. I told him I would take him up to the Greyhound station and pay for his ticket if he wanted to get home. He refused my offer, telling me that there was other business that he would have to take care of first. I had called his bluff and he knew it. I then asked him what he was doing out on the streets at 4:30 in the morning. He told me that he was making a living. After chatting with him for about twenty minutes, I was able to get him to reveal a few very important details about himself. He had been on the streets for about the past 6 years. He had been in and out of jail, only to be released and put back out on the streets again. He was living in a garage for the past two weeks. He recently lost a part-time job washing dishes. He did take advantage of some of the social services offered by local churches and government agencies. Unfortunately, he was not willing to commit fully to doing what the local shelters and the programs required. Last but not least, he revealed his name to me. This mans name was Adrian. If you have spoken to a homeless person you will find that many have actually had a home at one time or another. They usually wind up on the streets after losing their job or burning bridges with family members. Adrian was no exception to the rule. I asked Adrian if there was anything that I could do to either re-unite him with family or possibly help him find work. He showed a lot of interest in obtaining some type of employment. With a little networking, we were able to land Adrian a job washing dishes at a local restaruant. I even purchased a pair of water proof boots to get him started. This was obviousily not the first time that Adrian had help in finding employment. After speaking to the manager of Adrians previous employer, I found that Adrian had been given many chances to keep his employment, but he was unwilling to show up on time and sometimes he wouldnt show up at all. Obviousily, a job as a dishwasher was not going to end Adrians financial woes, but it was definately a foundation for any potential success. About week after Adrians first day on the job, he gave me a call. I was told that things were going great and that he just needed some money for a uniform. Since he did not have his first check yet, I told him that I would be able to give him the money he needed.I told him to meet me at my place of employment after he got off work.
